Reason for having an instant go-to prayer ready at a moment’s notice: Satan uses every opportunity to show why being a vulnerable Christian can result in Un-Christian like behavior the minute the ca-ca hits the FAN.
Do you find yourself in a wretched yelling match with your most detested manager practically every day? Do your fellow workers give you acid indigestion most of the day? Consider this, you are under attack every minute of every day. Why? Because Satan is pushing to gain every evil minion he can; and as a Christian, you are the “cherry on top” of his recruiting sundae.
In the same way that a row of dominoes knocks one down after the other, so too does your resistance. If Satan throws attacks at you continually, by the end of the day, you’re exhausted! It takes a superhero to be able to come home and shrug the residual anger from work off your psyche when you open the door to the ones that you love. Most often, it’s your family, partner, or pet that carries the brunt of that unburdening of your soul leaving confusion, pain, and hurt feelings in your wake.
ATTACK BACK!
Be Prepared for the next time you are compromised at work! Have an instant prayer ready and let it become your silent mantra as you confront the true originator of your stress—Satan!
You will find that by taking a moment to steady yourself with a prayer of protection, your mind will become clearer, and you will be able to respond to the situation with an increased maturity for solving the problem, not the increasing the emotion of the scene.
My mantra, for many years, has been the Lord’s Prayer. It was the first prayer I ever memorized. Not only was I taught the prayer in Sunday School, but I’m old enough to remember reciting it every morning at school–along with the Pledge of Allegiance, hand on heart, and the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner or America, the Beautiful.
It rolls through my brain easily. I don’t have to think about what word follows another, it’s simply there and available in my memory. Find what works for you. It could be this, the Lord’s Prayer, or it could be your own private thoughts. If the prayer is lodged in your head and can be drawn upon without much conscious thought, it will work.
Sometimes, just the beginning, Our father who art in heaven, is enough to dissuade Satan and send him on his way. But some situations call for the entire prayer, multiple times, in order to bring a semblance of compassion and clarity to an event. Continue to bring your prayer to mind, and the stressful confrontations will begin to dissipate as soon as your first words roll through your consciousness. Your co-workers may wonder why you seem to have suspended your engagement with the scenario, but they’ll learn to give you a little space because the outcome will be better all the way around.
